Grade 6 English Language and Literature- Mr. Turnbull

The grade 6 English Language and Literature class began the week by preparing for asummative task. Students reviewed rhetorical devices learned in the unit and created a studyguide for them. Students then wrote a comparative paragraph explaining which speech they thought was morepersuasive.

Grade 7 & 8 English Language and Literature - Miss Rees

This week in Grade 7 Language and Literature, students continued working on their stop motionanimation films. The focus was on filming the introduction and rising action of their stories, withan emphasis on developing their characters and plot.

In Grade 8 Language and Literature class this week, students made significant progress on theirsummative task, which involves creating a puppet show. The week began with studentsfinalizing their scripts and engaging in peer editing and revision.

Grade 9 English Language and Literature- Miss Rees. and Mr. Turvey

This week in Grade 9 Language and Literature, students have been busy finishing up their shortstories, which they have been working on for the past few weeks. The students have beenfocusing on developing their characters, creating a compelling plot, and using literary devices toenhance their writing.

Grade 10 English Language and Literature- Mr. Miller

The grade 10 English Language and Literature class successfully wrapped up the fifth week oftheir unit "Maus: Perspectives, Purpose and Audience Imperatives on Inequality" in conjunctionwith their Interdisciplinary Unit (IDU) with Individuals and Societies. This week, the studentsdelved deeper into the global context of fairness and development, honing in on the themes ofhuman rights, responsibilities, and access to equal opportunities.

Grade 11 & 12 English A: Language and Literature- Mr. Turnbull

The grade 11 class started the week by continuing their investigation into infographics as anon-literary text type. The class worked together to break down a Paper #1 response. Theyanalyze the guiding question and identify key words. They then developed a list of targetaudiences and gathered evidence from the infographic.

Grade 6/7 German Language and Literature- Mr. Adler

This week, Grade 6/7 continued with the unit about Animation. Students continued to film theirshort film animation using different props from the classroom or from home. In addition, students took a grammar test this week as a review of thegrammar lessons they had this academic year.

Grade 8 German Language and Literature- Mr.Meinberg

During this week in the MYP German class for grade 8, students continued to study the formalaspects of poems before moving on to interpretations of poems and the connection of rhetoricaland stylistic devices with the content of the poems.

Grade 9 & 11 German Language and Literature- Mr. Adler

This week, students in Grade 9 continued their final unit called "Creative Writing". In this unit,students continued to learn the different text types, explore different creative authors, learncreativity styles, structures and vocabulary to be able to create creative texts.

This week, students in Grade 11 continued to work on several mock-up Paper 2"s in preparationof their exams later. The mock-up questions for the practice are available for the students onManagebac.

Grade 10 Korean Language and Literature- Ms. Kim

In our MYP Year 5 Korean Language and Literature class, we have been exploring andunderstanding different text types in media. They reflected on their video clip task and will now conduct deeper research on videoproduction to complete their summative assessment. To improve their writing skills,the students are studying various professional writings by researching Hangyorae orKyunghyang Shinmun.

Grade 11 & 12 Korean A: Language and Literature - Ms. Kim

DP Year 1 Korean Language and Literature class had a review session on theiranimation analysis. They also studied how to arrange and approach their Paper 1 essay basedon the guided question, following the structure of Introduction, Bodies, and Conclusion. Next week, our G11 Korean Language andLiterature students will have their summative task for the Historical, Cultural, and Social Contextin Non-Literary Texts. They will also start working on literary works.

Grade 6 English Language Acquisition - Mr. Kirilenko and Mr. Steinberg

This week Mr. Kirilenko’s Grade 6-1 started by answering the ‘Heart of the Dog’ Episode 4 questions and discussed their answers. Students also shared their quizzes about recycling on Kahoot and Quizizz and later filled out a true/ false worksheet.

Meanwhile, Mr. Steinberg’s Grade 6s began the week with a listening comprehension assessment. Thereafter, students began to explore the purpose of different forms of communication.

Grade 7 English Language Acquisition - Mr. Du Plooy and Mr. Steinberg

Mr. Steinberg’s Grade 7s began the week with a listening comprehension assessment; allowing them to utilize the listening and analytical skills they have been cultivating. Thereafter, students researched the positives and negatives of emojis in preparation for their debate.

Grade 8 English Language Acquisition – Mr. Steinberg and Ms. Bartoszak

Mr. Steinberg’s Grade 8 students began the week by presenting the presentation they began working on at the end of last week; allowing the learners to practice their writing and speaking skills. After presenting, as a class, they analyzed each presentation for areas of strength and growth.

Meanwhile, Ms Bartoszak’s students started the week by developing their communication, in particular semi-formal and conversational language as they analysed main idea and spoke out specific vocabulary and what it suggests and implies.

Grade 9 English Language Acquisition – Mr. Steinberg and Mr. Dooley

Mr. Steinberg’s Grade 9s began the week by researching a legend from their own culture, and creating a script and PowerPoint to explore and present the diverse elements of the story, and the moral of the story.

Meanwhile, Mr. Dooley’s Grade 9s began the week by completing their formative presentations on Legends from their home cultures. Students learned a lot about each other’s cultures this week and focused on our listening as well as speaking skills.

Grade 10 English Language Acquisition - Mr. Schwab and Mr. Dooley

This week Mr. Schwab’s Grade 10’s focused on preparing for their upcoming DP by doing a mock reading assessment. The assessment included various question types such as true or false with justifications, finding synonyms in context, and matching synonyms from the text.

Meanwhile, this week the Mr. Dooley’s Grade 10’s continued our work on our unit Identities. Firstly, students started working on more analysis questions based on the Maus book and attempted to find strong justification for our answers.

Grade 11 & 12 English B Language Acquisition - Mr. Kiefer and Ms. Bartoszak

Mr. Kiefer’s Grade 11 English B HL students began taking their summative end of year assessments this week. On Monday, the students complete a summative oral assessment similar to their Internal Assessment.

Meanwhile, Ms Bartoszak’s Grade 11 started the week by exploring the topic the environment, in particular the problems with floods and water shortage in other countries, and simultaneously developing their vocabulary knowledge and range.

Mathematics Highlights

CISH

Grade 6 students are currently engaged in the ongoing study of probability. They are acquiring knowledge about the various representations of theoretical probability, which commonly include fractions, decimals, and percentages.

In the current week of grade 7 math class, students are actively participating in their ongoing preparation for the probability summative test. This test will comprehensively assess their understanding of theoretical and experimental probability, as well as their ability to calculate probability using fractions, decimals, and percentages.

The focal point of grade 8 math classes at present is data management. Students are currently acquiring the ability to distinguish between discrete data and continuous data. Additionally, they are exploring the concept of data spread, which refers to the dispersion or distribution of data points.

During the ongoing week of grade 9 math class, students are taking part in a captivating excursion to the carnival. They actively engage in various games and activities that provide real-life contexts for applying mathematical concepts.

For several weeks, a group of Mathematics 10 students has been devoting their time and effort to crafting a capstone project that encompasses a comprehensive review of all the units they have covered throughout the year.

Math AI DP1 students have recently embarked on a new topic: vectors. They are actively engaged in learning about the properties and applications of vectors in mathematics. Specifically, they are exploring how to calculate the cross product of vectors and its implications in determining the areas of parallelograms.

The Monty Hall problem and binomial distribution functions occupy the focus of Math AA DP1 students" studies. Diligently, they apply their knowledge to tackle intricate problems and actively seek feedback and assistance to deepen their comprehension.

Math DP2 students proudly showcase their unwavering diligence throughout their preparation. Diligently, they delve into a wide range of subjects, including calculus, algebra, geometry, and statistics, with the aim of attaining mastery over the necessary content.
